My eight month old daughter has met all other developmental milestones either on time or ahead of time. The one area that I'm concerned about is her language. She seems to understand, as she responds to her name and words such as juice and bottle. However, she hasn't said 'mama' or 'dadda' yet. At times it sounds like she's saying 'yeah'. She has never been quite a talker...I've never heard her say 'ga ga' or anything of the sort. Just babbling with the same intonations of our spoken language. She is very active and is into everything. She has been stimulated with language since she was born, as I am a teacher myself. Am I worrying for no reason? When did your baby say 'mama' and 'dadda' (even if they didn't relate it to the person)? Is there reason to worry?

Oh- I can hear her making the 'mmm' sound, just not adding vowels.

All babies develop at different rates. My daughter is 8 1/2 months old and does baby talk. She'll say mama, dada, and baba, but never at the right times. She knows who we are, but doesn't associate the name with the person. She will though!

Let it slide, this is normal. My now 10 month old just finally started saying mama. My first one said dada at 4 months old. Every child is different. When your baby is ready they will start speaking, until them just enjoy the experiments, they can make a bad day sunny. Enjoy your baby while you still have time to, because before you know it she will not be a baby anymore, and you will be missing these precious times.

yep no need to worry ..she would be early if she talked much by now. my friend swears her son says mama and knows its her but generally at this age if they say it they dont always even mean mama. last week my 8.5 month old started saying mama and he would say it when iw ould leave the roomand I would get backand see him looking for me. Now he has turned it into mamba and blah blah hahah so really theres no rhyme or reason. Today I took a class with 2 14 month old girls and they both said maybe 3 words. no worries

I wouldn't worry. Don't stick your kid in a box, to hit these "milestones" at a magical time. Every child is different. My friend's baby just turned 1, and he's just starting to say "Ma" and a few other sounds.

I wouldn't be worried about it. She'll say something eventually! Some children just start talking a little later than others- no big deal.
