Do you think it's about having lots of money, about love, about a fulfilling job? What do you think your focus should be on?

Happiness for me is being completely immersed in whatever it is I am doing.

I am reminded of the monologue that Tom Cruise's character gives in the last samurai:

"From the moment they wake up, they devote themselves to the perfection of whatever it is they pursue." During the monologue, the scene shifts from people pouring tea to people making / sharpening weapons, to people practicing archery on horseback, to people sword fighting.

According to my interpretation of that scene, I don't think the secret to happiness is what you get out of life, its what you put into it. In that scene, I think we are watching people who are giving meaning and purpose to actions that they might not otherwise have.

Frame of mind I think is the answer, it is down to personnel disposition, some people can find positives in everything others could not see the good side of being given £10,000,000. So I think it is purely frame of mind or attitude if you like....Events can put a downer on things I know but using that old adage, you have to get over it and move on, not always an easy thing to do I'll agree but if you dwell on negative events you'll never be happy.

This is what I think a person needs to have a happy life:

- Kindness and compassion for others
- Working on an ongoing project they think is interesting and important
- Freedom from want
- Having someone they love and that loves them in return
- Spending time in nature once in a while (or more)
- Interacting with groups of people once in a while (or more)
- Doing something self indulgent once in a while
- Avoiding addictions of any kind
- Avoiding Stress and staying physically healthy
- Learning new things
- Belief in something greater than themself

Its working for me, anyway!

Cheers and good luck

;)

I think the secret for a happy life is to be happy with who you are and what you look like.

To me, the secret of a happy life is always having something to look forward to every day. It can be something small like lunch with my mom, or something bigger like a trip, or even something in the rather distant future, like marrying my boyfriend, but I always feel so happy as long as I know I have something to look forward to.

I think it's all about perspective. Most people are forever trailing after more than they have, but are never happy with what they have. I think a huge part of it is accepting what you have, and realizing it doesn't always have to be more.

both love and a fulfilling job - you have to have both. one without the other just doesn't work.

i think total contentment is within a happy marriage/family life..and not looking for others when the going gets tough...the grass is never greener & once you realise that...you truly have a happy life.

Whenever you talk to your wife or girlfriend always say "yes dear".

Most importantly, when she asks about her new clothes and says "does my bum look big in this?" don't answer with "why, does it look small in anything else in the wardrobe?"

If you follow these basic rules, you may survive long enough to find out whether or not your life can be happy :)
