distance = speed x time
a 3x10^8 x 40s = 1.2x10^10m
b 3x10^8 x 300s = 9x10^10m
c 3x10^8 x 25200s = 7.56x10^12m
d 3x10^8 x 86400s = 2.59x10^14m

Ok, the speed of light is very slightly less than that which you have quoted - but it's very close indeed & will do for most purposes. Let's use that figure.
We need to know the number of seconds in each of the four periods of time you have given.
a) is obviously 40
b) has 60 seconds per minute & thus a value of 5x60 = 300 seconds
c) has 60 seconds per minute & 60 minutes per hour, so 7x60x60 = 25,200 seconds
d) also has the criteria as above, and the 24-hour-day means the total is 24x60x60 = 86,400 seconds.
Now for the distances:
a) 40 x 2.998 x 10^8 = 1.1992 x 10^10 metres
b) 300 x 2.998 x 10^8 = 8.994 x 10^10 metres
c) 25,200 x 2.998 x 10^8 = 7.55496 x 10^12 metres
and
d) 86,400 x 2.998 x 10^8 = 2.590272 x 10^13 metres.
I hope this helps, but please feel free to drop me a line if you'd like me to explain this idea further.
p.s. Nick P seems to be using a different set of figures; I don't like the look of his answers.

2.998 x 10^8 metres per second
a. 40 (2.998 x 10^8) so (4) (2.998 x 10^9) = 11.992 x 10^9 metres per second
b. 5 minutes = 300 seconds = 3 (10^2)
8.994 x (10^10)
c. 7 hours = 7(3600) = 25,200 seconds = 2.52 (10^3) =7.55496 (10^11) metres per second
d) 1 day = 24x3600 = 86,400
8.64 x 10^3 = 8.64 x 10^3 (2.998 x 10^8) =
25.90272 ( 10^11) meters in a day

We know, For zero acceleration
s=vt
Here,
s = distance traveled
v = speed
t = time
a)
s = 2.998 x 10^8 x 40 meter
= 1.1992 x 10^10 meter
[Answer.]
b)
t = 5 min = 5 x 60 s = 300 s
s = 2.998 x 10^8 x 300 meter
= 8.994 x 10^10 meter
[Answer.]
c)
t = 7 hour = 7 x 60 x 60 s = 25200 s
s = 2.998 x 10^8 x 25200 meter
= 7.55496 x 10^12 meter
[Answer.]
d)
t = 1 day = 24 x 60 x 60 s = 86400 s
s = 2.998 x 10^8 x 86400 meter
= 2.590272 x 10^13 meter

in 1 second light travels = 2.998*(10^8) meters
a)
in 40 seconds light travels = 2.998(10^8) (40) meters
b) in 5 minutes(5* 60 seconds) = 2.998(10^8) (5)(60) meters
c)
in 7 hours(7 *60*60 seconds) = 2.998(10^8) (7)(60)(60) meters
d)
in 1 day (24*60*60 seconds) = 2.998(10^8) (24)(60)(60) meters

Simplify the formulae on your own. They will yield the distance covered in kilometers and not anymore in meters:
a.) = ([2.998 * 10^8] / 1,000)
b.) = ([2.998 * 10^8] / 1,000) * (5 * 60)
c.) = ([2.998 * 10^8] / 1,000) * (7 * 60^2)
d.) = ([2.998 * 10^8] / 1,000) * (24 * 60^3)
I hope this helps as you still some works to do.

First you may locate uncomplicated denominators. the least perplexing thank you to locate uncomplicated denominators is locate if one is a distinctive of the different, or they have uncomplicated components, If that doesn't artwork you may multiply them at the same time. to your first occasion, in case you spot that 6*2 is 12 super! then you definately could additionally make your first fraction and 2d fraction have uncomplicated denominators. If no longer, you may multiply 6*12 and make your fraction over seventy two. no longer as marvelous to artwork with, yet certainly valid. one million/6 + one million/12 = one million/m 2/12 + one million/12 = one million/m 3/12 = one million/m Now you prefer to shrink your fraction. you may divide the two numbers by three, so which you get: one million/4 = one million/m subsequently m = 4 interior the 2d subject you would be wanting to organize the equation so as which you get a similar variety because of the fact the 1st equation, with the only million/y on one element, and something on the different element. one million/y = one million/6 - one million/15 you may multiply the two denominators at the same time to get ninety, yet once you spot that the two 6 and 15 bypass into 30, then you definately're set. multiply one million/6 by five/5 and multiply one million/15 by two/2 one million/y = 5/30 - 2/30 one million/y = 3/30 Now you prefer to shrink the fraction on the best. notice the two would be divided by three one million/y = one million/10 subsequently y = 10 wish this helps Cheers

the speed of light is in m/s. So if you multiply the speed of light by an amount of time (s), you will end up with meters as an answer.
so...
A) multiply speed of light by 40 seconds.
B) convert 5 minutes to seconds (300 seconds) and multiply it speed of light. etc.

Where is your problem? Multiplications or scientific notations?
You know how fast the light travels. You know how many seconds it travels. Multiply them together for the answer.
If the time is not specified in seconds, convert them to seconds first. You know how many seconds there are in minutes and how many minutes in hours, then to days, correct?
