This is quite embarassing. I want to go scuba diving this week, you see the thing is... do I have to wear a tampon? The thing is i have never worn one before and I don't know how. If i wore shorts would I be ok, i don't want any accidents! This is the only time i will be able to do it so i'm really confused!

If i didn't wear one what would happen? I have heard about water pressure stopping it, will it work?

Thank you all in advance

Tampons or NO water sports!

You WILL bleed into the water and your period does NOT stop nor does it slow down. It only gets dispersed into the water.

If you don't wear a tampon then you will continue to bleed just like you are now. Wearing shorts will not stop blood from coming out. I think you should try to put on a tampon a couple days before you plan on going scuba diving so that you know what you are doing in advance. If you've never tried it before then it might be a good idea to get some slim, or light, plastic aplicator ones. Relax, take a few deep breaths and then attempt to put one in. You know you've got it right because you won't feel it in there. It might take a couple of tries at first but it will get easier to do the more you use them. You can keep them in up to 6 or 8 hours so if you put it on right before you leave to go scuba diving you should be good to go for the whole trip. Just take a few extra with you just in case.

You should definately wear a tampon. Water pressure alone is not going to do it and even if it did, the minute you get out of the water, you are likely to have an accident right there. If you have not used a tampon before, practice before you go and make sure you buy some that are appropriate for your blood flow and body size as that will ease your "first time" jitters.

I would honestly recommend wearing a tampon especially for this event (I'm from Florida), they aren't uncomfortable what-so ever and unfortunately the water pressure does not stop the flow! Besides alot of times (from experience) you may not bleed while under water but as soon as you come on board the boat you will begin bleeding most likely...and it will probably be heavy. Tampon wear is your best bet for this kind of fun. My step dad ownes a boating and scuba business and you wouldn't believe some of the stories..urgh!

Your period does stop when your in the water, so you can do that if you have very accesible bathrooms.

The tampon is not a bad idea, i was taking the reading part of the scuba diving course and that was one of the things they mention. Plus you have up to 4 hours with a tampon and you cant be that long under water just make sure that as soon as you surface to look for a bathroom.

Yes, wear a tampon.
When you put it in, get the ones that snap back before you insert them.
Then, you insert the one end BEFORE pushing the actual tampon out, that way when you DO push it into yourself, its in pretty far up. Dont worry, the string will still be there!
If you take the tampon out first and then put it inside yourself, it will be too close to the surface and will be uncomfortable.
Also, good thing to remember, once you put it in, leave it there. Dont take it out right away, it may hurt as the tampon is still dry and will cause friction. Let it do its job, and just relax!

You'll be fine. After using them, you will realize how much more hygenic they are, and youll never go back to pads again!

Contrary to popular belief, bathing/swimming/showering does NOT stop the menstrual flow. Tampons are a must have for swimming if one is on her period.

Inserted properly, a tampon doesn't hurt. :) Relax, and enjoy the scuba diving!

Water pressure can stop your period, but I'm assuming you're going to have to be outside the water for a little bit, and you could bleed then and it could be embarassing and / or uncomfortable. It's so easy to wear a tampon, just buy a box and it will have instructions. If you need to, practice the day before you go.

water pressure stopping it is pretty unlikely, plus what happens when you get out of the water?
use a tampon--there are instructions inside the box--it's really easy. they make slender ones as well which are easier to insert.
wearing shorts is a gamble! you won't be able to enjoy yourself if you're thinking about that the whole time.

Get the smallest tampon you are comfortable with - better yet - get one of those variety packs with the different sizes and try out what is most comfortable for you. You'd be surprised how comforable they are and how you can forget it's there.

If you don't wear one you could have an accident on your shorts prior to entering the water, so be safe and try them out. It's not so bad once you get used to it.

Have fun!
