Yes - why do people think our elected officials and officers in the military have to pledge to the constitution and not the country or it's people?

Or preserve the USA as we have known it??? If there is to BE a USA, the Constitution is its essence.... NOT the stupid flag as the right wing tends to trumpet. The flag IS a useful symbol IF AND ONLY IF it is understood that it is a METAPHOR for the meaning that's in the Constitution. And IMHO this ALSO means that HONEST elections are NOT optional, as the last 2 of 2000 AND 2004 were SHAMlections.

Yes, absolutely. The people who want to rewrite the Constitution to prohibit certain activities and lifestyles have totally lost sight of its original purpose. The Constitution was not written to restrict what citizens could do. It was written to restrict the government from becoming oppressive. It does this by reserving certain rights that cannot be infringed upon by any laws passed by Congress. We must never allow oppression to find its way into the Constitution, because if that happens this will no longer be a free country.

To preserve ourselves as a nation? Absolutely. If the Constitution falls, it's not like everyone in the US will die. But we will no longer be the same United States of America, and I think our undercurrent of strength would then leave us.

Every empire falls. But I'd like to put off our fall for a few millennia more, thanks--unless we lose our identity, given to us by our Constitution. If that happens, then why exactly do we deserve to continue as a nation?

The constitution was never meant to be "preserved." That is the reason it has provision for amendments.

It is the best way to preserve our country. We are on our own as far as preserving ourselves.

Yes - we should insure that we preserve the Constitution. "Old Ironsides" would suffer terribly from shipworms, if not...

The USS Constitution shall always ply the waters, protecting us, especially our wide-open and vulnerable ports

Considering the people NEVER voted for the present constitution, we may need to rewrite it and let the public decide (rather than a handful of revolutionaries).
