not sure what happened, I had a back ache, and then it got worse with a pulled nerve. Now with no insurance, I dont have a clue what to do. Pain shoots down left leg. Thanks lots for your thoughts and opinions.

Try getting some exercises to improve the flexibility and strengthen the muscles of your lower back. That is what was prescribed for me at Physical Therapy when I had that problem.

A cold pack can also help when the pain is bad. My PT guy suggested a bag of frozen peas as the pack (on for 10 minutes and then it's back into freezer)..

If you do these (using the web site below) for about ten minutes a day there is no cost for the PT instructor and for equipment. You can't beat that price.

This is sciatica, after the sciatic nerve which runs through the leg and buttock to the spine. Doctors aren't much use for this kind of thing anyway, in my experience.

I find that I get this when I haven't been exercising enough - and I just mean going for 30 minute walks a few times a week, nothing strenuous.

I use panadeine forte [panadol and codeine] from the chemist if the pain is too bad, and get back into exercising once it has settled down.

Hot baths help of course, and sleeping on a firm, flat mattress.

Chiropractic may help if the pain persists more than a week or so.

All the best!

I've had this a lot. It really sounds like your sacroiliac is out and pinching a nerve.

Stretch out by lying across your bed with your feet on the ground. Gently pull the muscles in you back from your neck down. Do this often. You can also take natural muscle relaxers - they don't cost much. Go to your local health store as ask for something.

Most of all, once you to a muscle relaxer, don't think all of a sudden you are Hercules . . . you could injure it worse. Just keep it easy for a few days until it goes back in. And good luck. Back pain sucks!!
