I been having serious head aches/migraines so sometimes now..YEARS, it has been getting a lot worse! The right side of my head hurts all the way down to my neck. This stabbing head pain that rings and rings! It's getting too bad to where I cannot sleep. I literally have to fold my fist to sleep on it so it can press on my head so it feel a little better and Tylenol, aleve medications are no longer helping. I'm only 22yrs. old and I've had serious head aches for a while now. I know my liver must be bad..because its normal for me to take about 10 pills a day for pain. The medications don't last even though they would say 8 hrs.

My best friend suggested an MRI scan. Never heard of it or know anything of it. How much does this cost without insurance? Anybody know anything about MRI scan for brain?thanks

An MRI is one option for brain scans, as well as PET & CAT scans. All of them can be very expensive without insurance. I'd start by going to a regular doctor, like an internist, & talk with them about your condition first. There are other tests that can be run, to rule out metabolic conditions, that are less expensive than a brain scan & may actually provide more insight initially. If you're in school, many often have infirmaries for students that are free or cost very little. The important thing is to go to a doctor soon!

Have your doctor send you to an Orthopedic Surgeon for further testing.
Because your headache also involves neck pain, the problem could be in a vertebrae and both would require an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) which is more detailed than an xray.
The cost is expensive. If you don't have insurance, check your county for medical assistance.

See a doctor first. There are other, less expensive ways of diagnosing your problem. And yes an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) would most like find the problem but could cost several thousand dollars (depending on where you live).

Basically what an MRI does is take a color picture of your insides. When something is there that shouldn't be it'll light it up so that the doctor and radiologist can see it clearly. Then they can decide a course of treatment. But please go and see a doctor.

Instead of an MRI you could always get a cat scan of your brain. Not sure how much that cost, but when I got hit in the eye with a baseball that's what they did for me.

My son had a brain MRI about a month ago. It was $1000.00. I would try some other options first. If you have no insurance, it will get very expensive. Good luck to you. Hope you feel better soon :-)

Get yourself to a doctor. Over medicating is never a good idea.
