Turks come from Mongol tribes, Warriors and horsemen who came to the area known as Turkey today back in the 8th century ACE They adopted Islam as their religion and the Arabic alphabet. In the 1920's Camal Ata Turk did away with the Arabic alphabet and adopted the Latin one. Their closest relatives (linguistically) speaking are the Fins who are also descendant from mongol tribes.

Not because they are Muslims you can consider them Arabs.
There is no relation between religions & races.
There are over 1.5 billion muslims around the world, just about 20 - 25% of them are located in arab countries.
Arab countries are located only in Africa & Asia, These countries uses Arabic as the first spoken language.
Turkey is located in Europe and the turkish people are speaking just Turkish. Turkey geographically belongs to Europe, While politically it's just a matter of time before it joins the EU.
There are 23 Arabian countries, alphapteically :
1) Algeria - Africa
2) Bahrain - Asia
3) Comoros - Africa
4) Djibouti - Africa
5) Egypt - Africa
6) Iraq - Asia
7) Jordan - Asia
8) Kuwait - Asia
9) Lebanon - Asia
10) Libya - Africa
11) Mauritania - Africa
12) Morocco - Africa
13) Oman - Asia
14) Palestine - Asia
15) Qatar - Asia
16) Saudi Arabia - Asia
17) Somalia - Africa
18) Sudan - Africa
19) Syria - Asia
20)Tunisia - Africa
21) United Arab Emirates - Asia
22) Western Sahara - Africa (disputed, mostly under Moroccan administration)
23) Yemen - Asia

We are not Arabs and our culture is totally different from Arabic culture.
I live in abroad for the moment and i ask to you what is being European?
As my friend Ipek mentioned the differences between the countries i will give you also an example from my experiences.
I pass the French border and come to Spain and i don't see anything common. Or can you tell me that Italian people with their love-to-live personality can be compared to most of the Scandinavians who sleep at 9 o'clock?
Polish people and people from Portugal are same?
Of course not.
Even the cities in the same country differ.
What is European mentality? Is there only one mentality in Europe?
Is my neighbor who visited all the countries and married to a Morroccan guy share the same type of mentality with my colleague who thinks that learning languages is stupid? Of course not.
The only thing you should believe is that there are humans around the world which have different ideas and different beliefs. You shouldn't be surprised at seeing an Algerian girl wearing a mini skirt just because you know that her religion should be that or this...
Generalizing people according to their continent or city or country is a wrong thing to do.

No we are not Arabs. We have mixed blood with various races and one of them are Arabs but except our religion , some related traditions, some cuisine and some Arabic words, we don't have much in common. Those are inherited when Ottoman Empire was ruling the Arabic peninsula, just like we exchanged some customs, cuisine and language with Greek's since they were under the ruling of Ottoman Empire for quite a few centuries. This also doesn't make us Greek or them Turkish either now, does it? :)
We originally came from the steps of Russia, and considered Caucasian as a race but I don't think you meant your question as an anthropological subject.
OF course we think differently from most of the European countries, since we are a unique culture whereas UK and İtaly are very different in mentality from each other. That is the richness in diversity.
I quite didn't get your point about we think differently about women.. Please expand your question and explain so that I can give you a proper answer.
Hey , see,we can be gentle sometimes , can't we, admit it :)

well, i can't say that we have a great attitude towards women, or that women here are perceived any better and i can't say we are not sensitive, anyway.. the turkish culture is a mixture of attributes of the ottoman empire, europe, and islam. it holds both eastern and western, but they are not arabs, not all muslim countries are arab :) i mean being muslim doesn't make you an arab like being a jew makes you an israeli :))

the majority of turks are moslem, but they arent arab.
not all moslems are arab, for example moslems in indonesia and malesia arent arabs.
when i visited turkey, i liked it .
istanbul is like cairo in the films of Abdel Wahab .
in tarabya , i felt i was on the nile corniche.
our tour guide was a young respectable girl .she was honest and straight forward.she took us to the places we requested after the main tour.
in istanbul there is a street like khan el khalili , and another parallel to it with a restaurant like al dahaan.
the hotel suite was on the Busfur.. it reminded me of our hotels on the Nile.
the turks are very refined and neat people.they place a paper bag under the belly of horses so that they dont soil the streets in Princess Island.
they are conservative , respective and serious minded.
they observe the norms of islam .
they are simple and neat. clean and have good taste.
the architects who built the citadel in istanbul built a typical one in cairo.
in brief, cairo owes a lot to turkish architects , turkish dishes like kabab and kufta, neefa, stuffed vine leaves, stuffed green peppers , musaka3a , baba ghanoug , etc
oriental belly dancing started there, but egyptian dancers surpassed the turkisk ones.
turkisk music is similar to egyptian music.
their serials show furniture placed in the same style we have in egypt.
wherever you go, you read words that we have in colloquial egyptian arabic like ODA ( ROOM) MUHAFZA, MUDIRIYA , TarzIAT (TARZI), TOZ ( haif , i dont care )
they are european moslems.and many of us are turkish egyptian moslems.
