THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF RACISTS IN THIS FORUM!
Turbans and beards are part of Sikhs culture and religion. They do these things because it DEFINES WHO THEY ARE. They do not disrepect women, they don't try to get past the law, and they don't carry kirpans (sharpened knives that Candy was talking about) to hurt other people. You guys are making generalizations based on what you have seen from one individual or one certain group.
Yeah, I'm talking about you, Mable, Granny, Candy, Mafia, and Diane. You obvious have no understanding of religion, let alone the Sikh religion so I have no idea why you are even attempting to answer this Q.
Turbans are signs of respect and manliness. Maybe before asking this question you could have done some research before letting this particular religious group get slandered. And Raminder I don't mean that in a bad way, because judging from your name you are also a Punjabi. But if you are one of those that cuts your hair, you need to understand WHY Sikhs do keep long hair and what it means to them. It is very important and a very old tradition. So please do not let these clearly misled people get a best answer.
Btw, Freaked Out seems to have a good idea of how Sikhs really are. She deserves an honor. Also, I am very happy for her being in love. Congrats!
Here's what I think:
Sikhs are very hard-working, fun-loving, social people. They are great to be around and energetic. Their Bhangra dnaces are exciting to watch. They are very dedicated to their religion. They do a lot of service work in the community. Overall they are good people

I have never been fond of beards on any man.
Turbans, don't bother me one way or another, that is their culture. First I was ever aware of such was in the forty's on
the silver screen in theaters, many movies in that era protrayed Eastern Indians with turbans. The movie,"The postman Always Rings Twice." with Lana Turner via that movie she made Turbans the "in" thing for women to wear,
They were quite chic! A come back in the 70's, I had a few my self, Not of the bulk of ones you speak of. Yet I do believe
if you want to be an American citizen, if you are a male it is
time to put them in the closet. I have had no direct introduction
to any personally.

I think they're amazing. They're respectful of parents, family, religion and tradition. They treat women like princesses. They're strong and are always ready to fight for what they love and believe in. They can sometimes act like blondes or be too emotional, but in general they're the best. I might sound a little biased, but that's cause I'm in love with the best guy in the world..who happens to be Sikh.

Well honestly I wonder which local convenient store it is that they are gonna buy to stock with crack pipes and bongs. Which kind of pisses me off they will sell what sells with no regard as to what the product actually does

I am not a big fan of them and found it highly offensive that in MY country they can [yet again] circumnavigate the LAW to suit them selves.... the whole turban thing so they do not have to wear a helmet when riding a motor cycle which is LAW for every one else.................also that they can carry some little knife all sharpened etc tucked into their waistband and yet good grief if a local has ANYTHING that could be used as a weapon on their body...but as it is part of their religion they get to BREAK ANOTHER LAW.
Also found a good deal of them to be quite offensive in words and actions to a female walking down the road even more so when they was in their little groups.
regards

i know some that own a store near my house. they're very very nice (hospitable), and have good manners and appreciate kindness. they seem to be interested in discussing religion from a curious standpoint and seem to be pretty patient (from what i see). i live in california, usa.

I don't trust them. They remind me of the Taliban towel heads. They seem arrogant and snooty. They tend to be overbearing and entitled. They come across as a special class of people, when we all look the same naked. I don't trust them. They don't smile. They seem to look down on you.

I am American and I do not know much about Indian culture. When I see these men I think they do not think very highly of women and i try to stay away.
