Simple, pay yourself. You pay other bills. Start paying yourself like it was a bill. Put 10 or 20 percent of your check into savings. It gets paid like any other bill. You never miss it. You have it when you need it. Plus, it could go into an interest bearing account.
Just stay within your budget. Pay yourself a bill. Another idea: after you pay-off a loan, such as for a car, then continue making payments to yourself. Imagine that car payment going into your account. In no time, you can pay cash for a car. No interest is money in YOUR pocket.

Start recording every single thing you spend money on-I have a notebook with the following categories-school, mortgage, doctor, insurance, gas, food, other grocery, hair/clothes, gifts, books/paper, house/furniture, electric, telephone, tv... Write down everything. I have been doing this for 3 years. First you need to see how much you spend before you can plan. If you have a 401K available put 15% in it right away from your paycheck so you do not see it and miss it!! I am a stay at home mom with 4 children on 1 salary so I know what I am talking about!! We also have automatic withdrawal for annuities for savings-10% of my husband's salary. Only use CC for what money you have-never pay interest on money you have spent! Buy less than you think you need of course-don't waste money on junk-expensive clothes, music, DVDs, an expensive car-when you die your family will just give it all away-it is worthless. Eat at home more-we rarely eat out ever. Also use coupons and sales at grocery stores-plan your meals according to what is on sale not what you want-if chicken is $1.98 a pound, then buy 10 pounds, freeze it for later, don't buy when it is $5 or more a pound.

I took a year off from work. I spent two months in Thailand and support a thai family. I'm purchasing about 1/2 acres next door to mine and adding a truck garden. Living off the land.

I have been listening to talk radio in the afternoons and for the life of me I can remember the station nor the mans name that is on there.
He has said several times and it has been working for me since 2005 saying that you should be able to live on 10% of your pay check. I am not sure what kinda job or bills that you have. It is going to be hard as it was on me for the first 2 months and then things started to straighten out. I didn't go out that much and I don't eat fast food anymore.
I wish I could remember the station it is a "AM" station and he is on around 12-1 and they also talk about how to be heathy and the right things to eat. After him another guy comes on about stocks, and then after him it is some that talks about how you can buy a house and use it as a rental and that is easy also. If you would like more information I will be glade to answer any question that you have.

Here are a few suggestion:
1. Make a strict budget down to every dollar you spend and see what if any can be cut.
2. Use coupons. A few cents here and there can add up.
3. Save all loose change in a jar and cash it in at the end of the year.
4. Round things up when doing your balancing your check book.
5. Set up an automatic withdrawl to go into a private CD or saving account.
6. Also don't use debit card for items if you don't have the cash on hand don't buy that item unless it is necessary.
7.save mony ---- try walmarti hate it but its the best plce to save you may also want to try .....the groshery game gl

The number one thing have a budget. When going to the grocery store make a list and do NOT deviate from it. Of course use coupons, but only on items you actually need. Save all loose change at the end of the day. Another thing that has worked for me is to set up a savings account and pay MYSELF 10% out of each paycheck. It adds up quickly. Look into a 401(K) from your employer with matching funds.

Here's a neat tip I got from my accountant, usually when we get money, we use it for expenses( bills, etc) then the left over is what we save. So your savings then are not fixed, based on what ever your expenses are. So instead when you get paid or get some money the first thing to do is separate your savings (lets say 20% of your pay) and then budget the remaining (80%) to your expenses, this way your savings contributions will always be a fixed amount.
Hope this helps

Thats a good question, and a hard one to. Well theres an old saying don't spend more than your earning. Easy to say, hard to do.
Okay. Limit the eating out per se. That means no Mcdonald's no fast food for well a month. ( just try it for a month)
That means you have to cook, and when you need to cook that means you have to have groceries. So buy in bulk. If you like sodas buy generic or buy what's on sale. Best place to buy sodas food for less or 99 cents store 24 cans for 3 dollars. Then the cans don't throw it away recycle them for extra cash.
When buying food it's okay to buy chicken because you can cooked by like 5 different ways. you can baked, grilled, fry or just cut them to pieces and add them in pasta or marinate them. same as pork. When i cook chicken alfredo just slice the chicken and fry them for 20 minutes then add the other ingridients same as making chinese stir fry. same methods just experiment.
No renting of movies, if you can go to internet sites for free movies. or asked for cable companies to give you a great deal. Sometimes they will give you free premium channels for 6 mos. for free. then after the 6 mos. cancel it.
or if you really want to watch in the theater go at day time not the primetime you'll save half.
To save electricity if you live in a house. During winter time do not use the centralize heater, buy those portable ones put each one in different rooms it will save you a lot of money.
Same thing in summer time do not use central airconditioning buy a small portable ones or buy a water cooler the portable ones. Will save you about 200 dollars each month.
When doing laundry make sure you do it all at the same time to. So the electricity will not be that wasteful.
Also buy those energy savers light bulbs.
Clothes believe it or not you can buy signiture clothing at Macy's under 10 dollars. You can go there like right now it's near autumn there summer shirts are under 5 dollars or sometimes 3 bucks. Wal-mart also have great price.
Coupons either print them out of computers in some sites or clip in on newspapers. Go to the library and ask if you can just get the promos of retail stores.
When using your ATM cards make sure you don't use the other banks machine they will charge you 3 dollars and your bank will charge you a bit more.
Speaking of free MOVIES you can borrow from your local library for FREE. Yes there are libraries that let you borrow movies, dvds free
Okay those are the only things I can remember for now.

Some of the other answers are very good and I do them a lot. But you may not have thought of this one; buy a hot water heater timer. I have mine set from 12 noon to 3 pm each day. Why run a high consuming 220 volt unit in the home 24 hours a day when 3 hours is sufficient? I tried it, and have used it for about 15 years now. I have plenty of hot water to shower, and wash dishes. Also wash ALL clothes in COLD water. I have for years. Also after a hot shower the hair is soft; that is the best time to shave with COLD water; cold water causes me to have less nicks.
