A kind of feedback loop. People put their ideals and beliefs and morals into myths and then other generations hearing/reading these myths get influenced in the shaping of their own beliefs and morals and sometimes add to the stories. There are all kinds of myths that are never acknowledged or stated as folklore and ignored. This is in part due to modern communications. point being that lots of people generation to generation are exposed to and influenced by mythology. Look at the film industry.

The world calls ancient mythology fiction, but is it?
We have in our human power at the moment to create the flying horse by genetic manipulation. We have already created an ear on a mouse. A human liver in a sheep. Human blood flowing through pigs.
Human-Animal chimeras are possible today. There is a monster in Greek mythology with a lion's head, goat's body and serpent's tail. A Chimera is a mixture of two or more species in one body. We have ancient art with a man's head and animal body. Or a man's body and animal's head.
With genetic manipulation mythology is coming alive once again. In Noah's day the fallen angels called the sons of God who left their original abode formed mythology as we know it today.
The time line of history has come into full circle and we will shortly experience the beginning. God also makes certain that because of this evil, the first world was destroyed by water, but this next evil world will be destroyed by fire.
God is against this evil of mythology characters of genetic manipulation.

Myths, all over the world, have common threads. these threads give glimpses into the human psyche. they also speak directly to the human psyche. Change the myth, chane the symbol it represents.
Joseph Campbell wrote many books and spoke about how these myths are basic building blocks that we are taught as children. When there is a break in our psychology we tend to revert back to what we know is true.
