The widespread worry began in 1988, when the media began reporting on the issue and scientists gave testimony in front of Congress about the problem. The IPCC, the UN-convened body to address the issue, gave its first report soon thereafter in 1990. But the issue has been known for a while before that; the possibility of a carbon dioxide-induced greenhouse effect was posited in the late 19th century, and scientists have been speculating about whether it would lead to warming since at least the 1970s; evidence has been accumulating steadily since then, and the scientific understanding of the process has grown pretty much commensurate with the level of noise in the public press.

It hasn't become a problem. Some people figured that the coming Ice age that was actually taught in schools in the '70's was so lucrative they decided they could make more money by crying about global warming..since it is a natural occurrence, the data falls nicely into their hypothesis. The concern has been around since about the mid 1990's when it looked like the Republicans would gain control of the Whitehouse and it was used to paint them as being bad for the environment.

Global warming has been a problem for millions of years. The same as Ice ages have been a problem for millions of years. Just think of the warm up as the earths summer and an Ice age as the earths winter. Each country has different versions of that on a small scale which varies depending on where that country is on the globe.

The current round of worries goes back about 10 years or so.
Before that there was concern that the ice age was returning.
Global Warming is just another chicken little program whereby polititions can control your life by being able to tell you what you can and cannot do.
A lot of it is determined by what industries their family fortunes are invested in (current admin.>>oil companys)
