The people who are slagging LOTR films off have no idea of the amount of work that went into them.J.R.R Tolkein was an amazing story teller with an amazing imagination and I think those that found it boring or terrible should stick to watching films about people who take drugs or shoot each other for fun as that is all they can understand.I don't think they should make any more LOTR films simply because the book ended with return of the king but other books of his could be done.

Whats the point in making up another LOTR story? If it ain't broke don't fix it. Apart from anything else the Tolkien family wouldn't allow it I don't think.

There are plenty of books of Middle Earth written by Tolkien (and some written/completed/edited by his son) if they want to keep the franchise alive e.g The Silmarillion, The Hobbit.

Peter Jackson (director, screenwriter of LOTR) wants to film the prequel The Hobbit and to be honest if it is going to be done, or if any of the other books are to be adapted, I personally think that Jackson is the only director that will be able to pull it off with any success.

Recently Jackson and New Line Cinema had a fall out and Jackson was ruled out of having anything to do with the movie but it seems recently that the studio have relented and asked Jackson to produce (meaning his FX company Weta would also be involved) while Sam Raimi directs. See link below.

I think it would ruin Lord of the Rings if they made another movie. Yes they could base it on the life of Aragon as king, but they would have a hard time coming up with conflicts to keep audiences' attention as well as they did with the trilogy.

Some things are best left alone and I doubt the original cast would come back for a 4th episode so that would mean using unknown actors/actresses which again, would not hold the audience's attention.

But that is just my opinion.

I would love to see the hobbit made into a film. A team of dwarves and one hobbit fighting against a giant dragon. They would probably call it "There and back again" after bilbo's book about his adventure to the mountain. There would be a whole lot of smeagol in it.

They could do parts of the simarillon (sp?) or stories from inside the trilogy. Maybe something about Tom Bombadil or the guy who can turn into a bear (Beorn?). Or more about the Ents, although that might be kinda boring seeing as they move so slow. : )

I don't think the Tolkien Estate will let them while Christopher Tolkien's alive. The Silmarillion has food for several good films, and BoLT has a wonderful account of the Fall of Gondolin. but would good ones be made, we wonders; oh yes we wonders.

The Hobbit is a cert. Saul Zaentz owns the rights, and he's not as fussy as The Tolkien Estate.

No i don't think they should, the 3 film's are a work of a genius, i have heard Peter Jackson was thinking of doing the hobbit I would like to see how he is going to play that one, cause he has a lot to live up to after the lotr trilogy.

That would be more like The Silmarillion, right?

I think it could be really interesting and fun, but I'm afraid many people who haven't seen the LOTR trilogy but watched the new one would be confused. I would also be concerned that the director would take short-cuts and ball it up.

Over all, I would like it if a new Tolkien movie came out, as long as the makers made it right.

They are. The Hobbit is in pre-production right now. The newest set of producers (Possibly Sam Raimi) are even courting Jackson to help out. Not as a director mind you, but as a possible executive producer or adviser. And rumor has it that New Line has apologized to Jackson over the profits thing and are looking to settle the lawsuit.

How could they make another one? There are only 3 books. Although, I heard that the Hobbit will be made into a movie.

I think Peter Jackson should forget all this King Kong stuff and make "The Hobbit".

I also think the story of Beren and Luthien from "The Silmarillion" would make a great film.
