and ended up with a hand full of "goop"? My husband did that last night. He freaked out and opted for taking a shower rather than simply washing his hands.

I guess we're on a roll with being gross.... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnHXC7j5TyUCPgJcjieuls3sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20070917074408AAV4FXr

No, why should I release it to go and invade my neighbors' homes?
Bugs are parasites, not animals.
Insects are pests and people
protect them..Why?
What am I missing?
Just kill the thing..you won't go to hell for it.
For every 1 that you allow to live;
millions of others will spawn from it. Therefore, you are contributing to the infestation of such pests.
And I'm not angry or trying to hate on you at all; just simply want to divulge facts and statistics.
Have a beautiful day. Peace.
And I gave you a star just to show that there are no bitterness
and hard feelings.
Best of luck.

This is why I use a tissue or paper towel to catch the critters (that my cat doesn't get before me!)...

But yes, to answer your question I have accidently killed a few spiders like that. They were large and sort of frightened, so I squeezed a bit harder so they wouldn't get away and...and....well, you know the rest.

I've always been careful, even as a child, so I haven't smashed/squished a bug by accident.

I can't say the same for my kids though.

I prefer sticking the bug in a jar just to avoid the creepy crawey sensation.

I prefer the huge dictionary method of disposing of an insect - no chance of goop on hands that way. :)

Yeah once, and ever since I'm asking my daughter to do it for me. Never happened to her yet, I guess she is gentler than I am.

when i was a kid i used to go to my grandparents house and they had a pool table. you ever played kelly pool ? where you take a number? well i used to get the flies from the window in summer and catch them and pull their wings off and put them in the kelly pool bottle (the thing where you get the numbers from) so when someone tipped it to get a number all these flies would come out... gross huh ?

No, I haven't done that. I usually just kill 'em on purpose and get rid of 'em.

my son caught a frog by harpooning a stick through it and came to show me. I told him he killed it. He said, "No I didn't mom, it's still moving." He was five.
