I was wondering if there are any acting professionals that can tell me how do you summon your emotion when you are on stage. How do you bring out your true anger or saddeness on call. Thank you

With that method you generally recall a personal experience that makes you feel that emotion. If you had a real life experience that made you angry or sad then you recall that and channel the emotion. If someone close to you passed away, you think of how sad it made you and how much you miss them. If you continually get cut off on the freeway or if a teacher gave you a D on a paper that you worked very hard on or your parents wouldn't let you go somewhere with your friends but you'd been planning it for weeks, anything that you can think of that really made you mad. You channel that feeling into your character.

good luck

As is usual, Marianne D hit it on the head.

Allow Cider, as Tonto to her Kemosabe, to add just a couple of things:

Be aware of the effect of your recalled emotions on your audience. The give-and-take between an audience and a performer is the true Magic of Theatre. Please do not get so wrapped up in your Sense Memory that you forget that you are a partner with those that experience it, vicariously, through you. It is a Dance.

How do you do it? Trust your audience, and take them with you.

How do you summon emotions on cue? Ahhh....that is called Acting. It is not for the faint of heart. I will give you no "tips" or "tricks". You must find out what works for you.

Zen Master Cider has spoken. Ohhhmmm...........

Seriously, there ain't no tricks. Look me in the eye and tell me the truth. Pretty simple, really.

You must put yourself in the role you are into.. like for an instance the character you are in the story is a brat, you should try to visualized what should be a brat doing & act naturally. study your character so much..

Some may says if you want to cry, think of the miserable things happened to you. that can help too. but try to also be in the character you are into. watch yourself infront of the mirror too to self judge your way of acting or saving it in camera to have a comparison as well

When anger is called for, think of something in your life that makes you mad as heck, same thing with sadness.
A good director should be able to give you the "motivation" needed for the scenes.

Engage yourself in the actions of the character. Emotions are byproducts of striving to achieve the character's desires.
