I know it's a bit personal but I have two questions. Q # 1: If your an Ahelete (sp?) and your at that time of the month, what do you wear so it won't run off. (other than a tampon, I'm to young to use those) I know you'll probably say a maxi pad but won't that move and all? Q # 2: Is it true that eating/drinking lemons will reduce your Menstrual Cycle? If so, how?

There are special smaller tampons for girls who need them. I used tampons in combination with the old-fashioned pads with an elastic belt to hold them in place when my periods were extra-heavy. Horrible, but effective!

As for lemons reducing your heavy periods, if only!! sorry, lemons will give you extra vitamin C but they won't have any effect at all on your periods. The only thing I have found effective was the contraceptive pill, which the doctor might prescribe for you if you explain how excruciating your periods are!

The pad issue can be handled by using Thins Maxis and wearing underpants that fit very snugly.

And you're not too young to use tampons. You could start by using a type that has a plastic applicator and comes in Slims or Sport size and go from there.

As for the lemon thing, that's bunk. Your period will run its course and nothing you do or eat or drink is going to change how long it lasts. Being athletic and active WILL however help with bloating and cramps, so DO continue to be active.

I can't answer your second question - never heard that one before - but I can suggest wearing tighter clothes to practice, especially underwear, while you are on your period. Holds things in place better. Also, if you can, stick to dark colours...just in case. I also found that the bigger pads, you know, overnighters with 'wings', made me feel more secure, if slightly less comfortable, given all the movement and the fact that i bled more during exercise.
How well a pad will work for you will depend, to a certain extent, on what kind of sport you do and what kind of clothes you exercise in but I had to wear a leotard and I managed for a year or so before I ended up in a performance/costume situation where I *had* to figure out tampons. That was a pain but also very much worth it in the end.

1. Tampons. You are NEVER too young to wear them. They are excellent if you are physically active or swim. However if you don't want to wear them, try the pads with wings and a snug pair of undies.

2. No it is not true.
