I'm new to the whole RPG thing so I have no idea of how to play one but I am interested in learning. Can anyone reccommend a really good RPG game for the PS2 that is good for people just starting out.

My favorite RPG games for the PS2 are Final Fantasy 10, Dragon Quest 8, Dark Cloud 2, and Final Fantasy 12. I'd say Final Fantasy 10 would be a great one to start with, it has a terrific storyline.

All of the above people have great recommendations. I can only add that if he enjoys pouring hours into a game lvling up and earning some cool stuff then Disgaea/Disgaea 2 are really fun but lengthy. The Final Fantasy games are great, especially FF7. As said above age has a lot to do with it as well, if he is young maybe FF9 is better, because FF8 is more adult. Finding them is pretty easy, EBGames/Gamestop, ebay (buy NEW for best results), BestBuy. At stores you can get good RPGs used in good condition for a decent price.

Dragon Quest VIII is a good easy beginner rpg and pretty fun too...if you dont mind playing a game with not so good graphics but is fun try Vandal Hearts 1 and 2 for the ps1. Kingdom hearts 1 and 2 is a pretty game and has alot to do. Of course their is always Final Fantasy and Suikoden series.

Try Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. It's a really good game. If you can find it, it's predecessor (Star Ocean: The Second Story) is even better! The Kingdom Hearts series is also a good choice, but in my opinion, the best RPGs are for PSX.

oh man, try Final Fantasy X make sure it isn't X-2. but Final Fantasy X is one of the most popular RPG's for PS2.
It's definately one of the best RPG's i've ever played.. There's also another game called, "Grandia II" i think... it's also very cool..
both games are turn based.

I loved Final Fantasy 10 also. But if you can get your hands on Final Fantasy 7 you are certain to be in for a special treat. They just don't make games like that any more!

hi, i got a few for ya :)
Star Ocean: Til the end of time (Hack and slash battle system)
Dark Chronicle or Dark cloud 2 (more of a adventure style RPG)
Final Fantasy X (all time best RPG for the PS2, Turn style battling system)
And Finally...
Disgaea Hour of darkness (Tactical style battling system)

Dragon Quest VII is good, fun and easy game.
But I agree with the others that Final Fantasy X is a good game.
Rouge Galaxy is also fairly easy and amusing.
