Please give me step by step. i have an 70's style gold bar fixture with three light bulbs. my main question is how do i remove this light bar

Turn off the power at the breaker. Look for screws around the fixture that may hold it in place. It may have a bracket that it clips onto also (no screws). Once off the wall, disconnect the wires and remove. Remove any bracket from the wall from old fixture. Install any new bracket and then connect the wires and ground (green wire). The new fixture should have mounting directions.

If the thermostat is modern, it will accommodate both heating and cooling and will include a clock for night setbacks. So I'd say it's about twice as complicated as an ordinary fixture, closer to a dual-switched circuit. But there are detailed directions in the box. I am sure that if you follow them carefully, you will have no trouble.

Just to add to the above: You want to check right next to the center light for the screws or two small rounded things that can be twisted off.
