Like if your name is John B Jones III. What do you call the III - officially speaking? We came up with numeric suffix which sounds official but we basicaly just made it up.

The word suffix indicates that it is an ending to a word and since the Roman numeral is not added to a word, suffix is inaccurate. I would be more inclined to name it a Lineage numeral since it is used to indicate a succession in persons of a single family.

it starts with the third as the second is a junior. it simply means that that many people in the same bloodline have had the same name. no official name for it just john b. jones, the third,forth and so on.

I just filled out dependent information for my insurance company and they referred to that as "numeric birth order".
