Pop culture glamorizes violence and cheapens the value of education. It emphasizes the importance of material things and "bling" versus hard work, education, and nurishing relationships with family and friends. It portrays women as sex symbols more than it does men.
Of course pop culture portrays a fantasy life - that's what makes it fun. It's not that I think pop culture should be censored, I think that people should be less stupid, think for themselves more, and take it for what it really is - entertainment. Unfortunately it would be easier to censor than to make people less stupid.....so I don't really know what the solution to this is.

Different cultures can be effected, in a number bad ways. For an example of my brother, is racist towards african americans for their hip/hop and rap music they come up with. For this reason, he doesn't respect african americans in the way they should be treated. It is his own feelings, that makes him want to deffend someone with a different skin color. I am not racist at all, and I respect anyone who deserves respect.
Some people judge others by their race, nationalities, culture, and background. If someone judges someone in a bad way, they often make fun of that person. There are many ways someone can make fun of someone else, and it can result in many different ways.

If we were to look at the Kray twins who were violent underworld gangsters running a protection racket, most would not have a favourable opinion of them. However after the movie of the Krays they were transformed into heros and glamourised therefore an example of the Krays for real and the transformation into popular culture!

12 yr old girls go on fad diets...
middles and high school boys and girls have eating disorders...
the belief that money and fame will give you a life of happiness...
movies and tv brainwash young kids into believing all this sh*t...teens grow up watching 'the hills' where a bunch of stupid rich kids show how rich and popular they are to the rest of the world.
not all, but most of hip hop/rap music depicts that the only thing that is important is the women, the cars, mansions, and their f*cking golden teeth!
all reality tv is JUNK! all the bloody 'my super sweet 16' b*tches need to die for their ungrateful egos. and all those people that have a show of how they live in CA need to be sent to live in Antarctica so that they can realize that no one f-ing wants to see their rich-asses on tv

I couldn't agree more. Youngsters think behaving like yobs is acceptable nowadays. Popular culture, the way I see it promotes anything that is negative, from street gangs, violence, parents disobedience, school rebelling to gun crime.
I blame the media for promoting it, that what I say.

I think that the pop culture is why we have children that are starving themselves. Society as a whole lets the pop artist influence our young adults into thinking that it is alright to be materialistic and to only think that tall thin women and muscular men are beautiful.
