Asperger's syndrome boy discovers the (female) neighbour's dog murdered. Decides to investigate, finds out that his mother didn't die as his father had told him but had run off with the neighbour (husband of dog owner). Heads to London to see mother. Is proud to have solved the mystery (his dad killed the dog because he'd also had a brief affair with female neighbour apparently in reaction to their spouses dumping them), made it to London and passed his A levels in math.

(I mean the neighbour is female, don't remember about the dog.)

There is a book entitled, "501 Must Read Books" published by Bounty Books in London and there is a synopsis on the novel on page 24 with its cover. You may look it up in a good library. However, you can visit this wikipedia web site for a good synopsis as well.
