I think you have asked this question more in the way of your desire to share it with us … if so, then first thanks!

I find this to be a gentle admonition rooted in solid observation of life. This is fact that everyone we meet we find engaged in an ongoing battle within his or her world; thoughts of care and consideration that this quotation rouses are therefore invaluable, and might prove to be a key towards a shift in normal attitude to people, life, and the problems people encounter living.

There however should be a ring of caution that I find missing. This after all is in the middle of a ‘hard battle’, and life is sort of battleground of vested interests and criss-crossed purposes. Shouldn’t we also be a little weary and careful about people? Wouldn’t it be a little wiser to say something like this – be kind to others, but also be careful, for everyone in life is fighting a hard battle?

The way the original quote has been put is like as if it is not really a practical advice, but just an interesting way to point out an essential aspect of life that we normally overlook in each other.

i agree with the end... 'everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle'... but the kind part throws me. sure we should be kind... but its not that simple. some people are just not kind so does the fact they have a hard battle excuse them? i be kind to everyone i meet (i hope) but the first act of nastiness and i stop. i deserve better. everyones got their battles. no one can use it against others. so yeah... be kind... but if they're nasty to you then forget the quote and stand up for your rights. doesnt mean you be nasty back. you just grow a distance lol.

smile because that is the only way to carry on with the struggle =]

Definitely agree. That guy that cut me off in traffic may be headed to some emergency. I think there's always something like that.
I'm surprised to hear that is from Plato, though. Do you know where in Plato that quote can be found?

I do agree with the quotation above. Humans undergo hardships in life in so many ways. the degre of hardship varies from one person to another, It is only how we deal with it. Goodness of heart is an essential quality every man should posess for we struggle in life. Indeed these words are very strong worded written by our great philosopher Plato that up to this generation continue to touch everyone of us.

That's a quote I live by and it's actually written on a white board I have on my door.

Think about it. Even receiving a smile from a random person after having a bad day can brighten you up. I try to be as nice as possible to everyone I meet because knowing I made a difference (even if it's small) to someone's day means the world to me.

I very much agree with it. Life is very hard for everyone, no matter what we see from the outside we will never truly know their own personal battles. Therefore, it is always necessary to be as kind as you possibly can.

It is not about agreeing to what Plato said; for when we look into our selves we cannot do anything but agree to what he says.

It nevertheless is about the ability of each of us to be kind to those others whom we meet and who meet us in the course of working hard for making a living, for earning and for surviving in the battle of life.

He in fact seems to be asking us to use kindness as our knowledge and weapon to fight the battle of life with those others who too are fighting such battle; not only with others but with ourselves as well.

Yes, But Many Times it's Hard to Keep this In Mind.

Yes.

Think about it. We all have our own demons, our own "battles", if you will. If you are having a bad day, you are not making the day any better for yourself or anyone else if you decide to unload your frustrations on a passing stranger who might have just been told he/she has cancer. Would that not make you feel like the total heel?
