when the weather gets colder. On those days that I end up arriving late, I notice right away after my alarm rings that it's cold and the blankets are warm (btw, not married so I don't have a supportive wife to kick me out of bed) and I'm feeling groggy..then I just let these conditions overrride my body and go back to sleep again.. and of course, I then wake up again and see, to my horror, that I won't be able to catch my train on time.

How can I avoid this in the future? I think this bad habit put me under a bad light, which is partly why I don't have a good number of job references to provide, even though I'm in my mid 30s.

This is a bad habit, and it can cost you a good job.

You can do a couple of things-- get a reverse cycle air conditioner that's put on a timer to come on in heat mode about 20 mintues before your alarm is due to go off... that will make the getting up not so bad! Or if you have a thermostat, well, you'll have to set it a little higher!

When the alarm goes off, sit up. Immediately. Open your eyes, swing your feet off the side of the bed.

Move the alarm clock so it's not next to you. You have to get up to shut it off, and then... you're already up. Have a warm bathrobe nearby and maybe a coffee maker with a timer that's got a warm cup of joe waiting for you!

The rest of it is willpower. Even if you were married your partner might not be any better at it than you. Think about what's most important! A few minutes' sleep, or a life of employment so you an afford to sleep longer on the weekend!

I have the same problem.I think it may have to with the fact that we cannot tolerate the cold very easily.A symptom of hypothyroidism.Have you ever been tested for thyroid disease? These tests are often inaccurate, and people go undiagnosed.Frequent cold hands and feet is another symptom. This may not be your problem, but it certainly is for me.If i don`t take my thyroid meds in the winter.I just want to wrap up in a blanket and hybernate for the winter.Check out the yahoo group thyroid if you think this might be a problem for you.

Get a heater for your room. Turn it on when you alarm goes off...then hit the snooze. You'll get a few minutes of extra sleep and your room will be toasty warm when you get out of bed. Wake up with a cup of coffee or tea to warm your insides before you leave the house.
