Hamlet is aproximately 30-32. We just discussed this in my Dramatic Lit class today. If you look at the gravedigger's lines in Act V he says he has been working since Hamlet was born and he says he has been working for 30 years. Also, Hamlet said he played with Yorick who has been dead for 23 years. Yorick would have had to been alive with Hamlet in order for them to play. Modern theatres cast him from anywere between 15 and 30 though.

It`s almost 400 years. With 4,042 lines and 29,551 words, Hamlet is also the longest Shakespeare play. Hamlet is a tragedy of the revenge genre, in which the title character seeks revenge for his father's death

Hamlet, having just returned from Wittenburg, is 25 years old.

Big bummer to put on a young man, eh? No wonder he went a little "off".

John Barrymore was quoted : " By the time you are old enough to play Hamlet, you are too old to play Hamlet".

Hamlet the character is probably late 20s/early 30s as "poor Yorick" is dead 23 years.

In the play, he is a young man. He's just at the point in his life where he is asserting his manhood. He's young enough to still be under the parental wing, but old enough to strike out on his own.

I think traditionally, he would be played as about 17 to 21. In modern times, he could be played a bit older (as identity crises seem to linger these days, and people delay "serious adulthood" longer).

Probably around 50-60 years old. I assume that you want to know the age that the actor should be for the play.
