freecycle! There probably is a group in your area. www.freecycle.org
You post the couch as an offer and if somebody wants it, they will come remove it for you. good way to get rid of stuff that you no longer want, but still has life left. It keeps it out of the landfills too! Bonus! :)
obviously, throwing it out is always an option, and hopefully somebody sees it and picks it up, but it sounds like you want to do something besides toss it. Another thing with just putting it on the curb is if there is any bad weather, the couch is ruined.

Most communities have a pickup day for large items, check with the trash dept., or if it's still descent, call the Salvation Army to donate it. As a last resort, just put it curbside any nite and someone will take it, guaranteed.

I'm with Bill .....
Freecycle.org!
I have posted many items and it's great that someone is able to use something that you no longer need. They save you the hassle of finding a truck to take it away and it's free to post too.

Take it to a second hand store for them to distribute. Like the Salvation Army, etc.

Give it to a charity shop - some of the bigger ones will collect large items.

Put it on your front lawn with a sign saying "FOR SALE $200" Leave it out for a few days and I guarantee you it will be stolen.

I'd put it out on the curb or if you have more time post it for free on craigslist.
