As for recent movies I would say "Bridge to Taribithia". As for movies of the past it's difficult to choose but, I would say it's a toss up between "Bridge Over the River Kwai" or "Midway"

"Pitch Black" starring Vin Diesel in an early role. The "evil" guy turns out to be the better man and redeems himself by saving others after the co-pilot, portrayed by Radha Mitchell, changes her attitude after willing to be ready to "sacrifice" the passengers by saying "I am not going to die for them!" in the initial scene to her co-pilot that stopped her, to willing to recruit Vin Diesel's character to help her save the two remaining people when it would have been easier and safer (and at the pleading of Vin Diesel's character) to just "save herself". She ends up dying trying to save Vin Diesel's character and he is obviously very touched that someone saw him worthy enough to do that for him and at the end of the movie when one of the people ask "What do we tell them if they ask about Riddick" he answers that "Tell them he died on that planet" because the person that was (Vin Diesel's Riddick) is no more, and it changed his life and perspective.
2nd one would be "Not Without My Daughter" starring Sally Field as an American woman after she marries and has a daughter with an Iranian man and then her struggles to free herself and her daughter after learning what the lifestyle entails. She could get just herself out, but she refuses to leave without her daughter. Makes one that lives in a 1st world industrialized country appreciate what we have and our females, especially if you are a female.
