It really depends on the job. If it's a task I like then I will do it but if it is a task that I don't care to do then I will have a contractor do the work. Since I am a DIY even though I have a contractor do the work I at least know what is involved and how the job should be done. This is what is most valuable when you are bidding work.
First of all I know what has to happen during the bidding process, I also know about how long it will take, I am aware of the process (like messes and inconveniences) and I also aware of how much the job should cost.
I don't mind a contractor making money after all he is in the business to make a living but they also need to be kept honest.

No reason to have the tools if you aren't going to do the work. Having someone else do the work can be worse than doing it yourself. There are some contractors that will take advantage of you and leave things worse than before.

That is not the way to go about it and have somebody else to do the work. If you want to bea DIY expert...you must learn to do it for yourself.

Depending on what the job is I agree with you about having someone else do it.

It depends on the work. I refuse to let other plumbers and electricians into my place. Roofers are welcome though. Exterior painting is not my thing and I'll pay for refinishing floors.

I prefer to do it myself, I know it's done right first time then.
