I'm sorry about your question!! I know very well how upsetting this is, especially when a question means a lot to us, like this one did, for you.

I used to star 100 questions (my limit) every day, to share with my friends the questions I like and/or think are important. And to let them know I care about them, even when I don't answer their question, because I don't have an answer for it or, some times, don't have the time to write it.

Now, I decided I won't star any more question (this will be the last one) for some days, to see if I can prevent whoever is reporting my questions over and over from following me around the site. I just got another violation notice, minutes ago, the fourth in my new account, that has only five days. I don't want to lose it.

I sometimes star because I want my friends to see the questions, sometimes I star because it is a great question.
I star almost any question I answer, unless it is a question
asking for a Dutch translation, or for Travel advice in the City
of Amsterdam where I live.
These questions are of no interest to any of my contacts, as there are very few Dutch on the pages of Y/A.
So if I can answer those I will, but starring them is pointless.
But once in a very blue Moon I star questions because I feel
they need some serious pondering and possibly some serious research as well, and I'd be doing the asker a disfavor by rushing an answer.
I can easily retrieve them when I star them that way.
I once starred a question to which I had no answer whatsoever, but I knew one of my contacts would certainly
be able to give great advice.
It was about how to handle a Bi-polar wife, how to live with the
pain and the hurt when the feeling of love remained so strong.
My contact was a shrink and had lived with a Bi-Polar wife,
So I knew his answer would be germane to the question.

As for people who remove popular questions for no reason
whatsoever, Yes .....they should take the popularity of the question into account. Stars are a sign of approval !.
They are also an indicator of community feeling, removing them makes a joke of Community Moderation they state they
are so keen on promoting, it would be counterproductive.

You are very polite calling them " Meanies " if they indulge in
activities like that, the terminology I have in mind would certainly get me suspended if I dared type it .

I star questions because I think it's a good question.

I think a question with 118 answers and 60 stars would be a good question!

And I don't think yahoo reads the questions before it's removed, someone hits that report flag and it's just removed. I asked a question once that had nothing wrong with it and it was removed, when I asked yahoo why,, they never responded or put my question back. So when I get a violation notice now I just let it go cause whats the use?

>Why do people star questions on yahoo answers? Is it because they want their friends to see the question?

Partly that, but mostly just because they think it's an interesting, thought-provoking question and deserves a star. On occasion people give stars just because the asker said they wanted a star for whatever reason.

>Would a question with 118 answers and 60 stars be a good question you think?

Probably, but not necessarily. It also depends what category it's in.

>Do you think yahoo answers should consider the popularity of a question before it removes it?

They have every right to do whatever they want to people's questions, this is their website. Personally, I would prefer that spam and spam ONLY be deleted; anything with meaning, even if it's extremely racist, hateful or sexually explicit, should be left up.

>Do you think yahoo answers removes questions that are popular because they are meanies?

No, I think they base themselves almost entirely on the content of the question...although it's possible they might also play favorites on occasion.

Hi,
I'm answering this as one way of showing how the system works for some of us. A contact starred your question and I found it interesting too. So I shall star it.
I did not use stars a lot at first until I realised that it's a great way for contacts to 'comment' to each other that there's a question one of us might be interested in.
As for questions with hundreds of answers and stars: will it be a good question? That's for you to decide. Sometimes the questions with fewer answers are the more challenging ones to answer because they need more thought and therefore they are the ones others have passed by.

They star a question because it is interesting to them.
I would consider a questions with that much of a response a very good question.
I don't think the popularity of a question should enter into the action because the question may be highly offensive to some people.
No, I don't think they remove questions just to be meanies. lol

I star it cuz I like the question, or the person , or I want others to see it...

I think that would be a great question.

I do not think they consider the popularity of the question , they only make sure it fits their little guidelines...

Yeah they do it just to be communist meanies.

*hugs* We'll get through this...

i can't speak for others but I star questions that have information i have been curious about or that are really controversial and either people i know wouldn't believe it or i want to hear what other people think abou tit

i think any question that is overtly offensive should be removed, but with common sense

i don't think they do it to be mean..in fact, as far as I can see the only questions I have ever seen removed were really really terrible like one I saw where the man asked about Jewish people and pizza ovens....

stuff like that deserves to go

now if it is something like, Who thinks the Sopranos should be made into a movie?, then no....

No. you will come across questions approximately different applicants with basically as many "stars". And the question would have been starred by way of fact human beings needed to verify how dumb the minds of his supporters could be. as an occasion, "barack the guy-he have been given stars"! Ridiculous.

i always star a question if i answer it, and it's not insulting.

i know what you're talking about, and i have no idea why they deleted that question.
they need to put some human beings in charge of things being deleted and not just allow an automated system to do it.
that allows for major abuse...you get one person who doesn't like it, and they report it, then they use their other accounts to report it, and then they have their troll friends report it.

i thought that this happened mostly in r&s, but i see the problem is everywhere.
