When I have my AC off or on a low setting, my 95 Camry starts to overheat. It drives fine, but I am weary about taking a 3 hour trip in a couple of days if this could be a big problem.

The Temp Sensor that activates the fan could be broke or the contacts are dirty or got disconnected somewhow. That is my best guess. Could be other things too. Also check your coolant level too at the radiator, no the Expansion Tank (Jug). The AC on most cars will kick the fans when turned on. I turn the AC on as a test to see if the fans are ok.

Two Fans, Radiator and a/c, sounds like radiator fan isn't working, sensor, relay or motor! Radiator & Block need to be Boilded (Flushed) out! Hoses may be bad (chacked or bad inside restricting flow). With engine running turn on a/c to see if the a/c fan comes on (should run any time the a/c is on), when engine is warm/hot the main fan should come on. With the engine hot and the a/c on both fan should be on.

Have 98 that had the same problem 3 years ago.

Start the Engine a/c on and see if the Ele fan in front or behind the rad = running might have to warm up some if no check the fuses then the sensor for the fan>Yes it will over heat if you get in traffic and have to sit as the air moving across the rad= is what cools the rad=and Eng

The A/C on high might force your radiator's cooling fan to come on and cool the radiator. So you probably have a defective coolant fan thermostat switch that tells the radiator fan to turn on. You won't have a problem on the highway at 60 mph because air forced through the radiator cools it rather than relying on the cooling fan to come on like when your engine's idling at a stop light or stopped in a traffic jam. It's an inexpensive repair, so get it fixed.

Could be any of several things such as the Thermostat, Radiator leak, Hose leak, Fan, etc... You should get it checked out by a mechanic before you take a trip or do any damage to the car by running it hot.
