I would say at least $20 an hour. I used to do some painting a few years back for around that much. Anything less it would feel like you're working for free. It's a pain unless you really enjoy doing that sort of thing.

for starters i wouldnt worry about beind too fair remember its your back. second of all find out exactly what you are painting and how the owner wants their finish. they could want a 3 coat mirror finish which would take you a hell of alot longer. third of all work out exactly how long 1 man would take to finish the job. say 1 man will do so much in one day then count how many days it will take to finish. an 8 hour day times $25- 35 an hour = $250 a day. say the job will take 20 days thats $5000. good luck

The best way is to calculate the square footage and charge per SF.
.70(cents) per SF including materials fair for a profeesional job and less for an part time (non pro)painter.
average room is roughly 350-500 SF including the ceiling. if you have to do all the trim and doors i would charge 1.20 per SF.

A LOT! I just painted my bedroom and what a nightmare! I would have gladly paid someone a hundred bucks, at least, to do it for me. I have 3 more rooms to paint and I will definately be hiring someone to do it. Are you in Wisconsin by any chance? LOL
