Betamax was the best system, VHS the poorer and cheaper and, the public being what they are, bought the cheaper so there wasn`t much call for Betamax.

You want the truth?

Porno.

The Phillips V2000 system was far superior to either Betamax and VHS.
Phillips wouldn't subscribe to the porn barons demands therefore that system died...
Porn movies availability on VHS bloomed while betamax lagged behind...

Eventually VHS emerged as the winner! Hooray!!

until DVD reared its ugly head...(gulp!)......

beta max was the better of the 2 but the porn industry found it cheaper to make films in vhs and that's why it took off then one of the big corporations jumped on the band waggon and helped it on its way . the same thing is happening now with hd and blue ray but i don't think you will see one of these disappear off the market

beta is better!
but all the film companies chose the VHS format to market films on
therefore everyone bought the VHS players to play their hire films on.
