"Red Tide" is a common name for a phenomenon known as an algal bloom, an event in which estuarine, marine, or fresh water algae accumulate rapidly in the water column, or "bloom". These algae, more specifically phytoplankton, are microscopic, single-celled protists, plant-like organisms that can form dense, visible patches near the water's surface. Certain species of phytoplankton contain photosynthetic pigments that vary in color from green to brown to red, and when the algae are present in high concentrations, the water appears to be discolored or murky, varying in color from white to almost black, normally being red or brown. Not all algal blooms are dense enough to cause water discoloration, and not all discolored waters associated with algal blooms are red. Additionally, red tides are not typically associated with tidal movement of water, hence the preference among scientists to use the term algal bloom.

Only the food supply from seawater is affected by red tide. We still have other sources of food such as Poultry, Fruits & Vegetables, Beef & Pork.

red tide is a slang term for womens menstruation. haha.

other meanings than that is i think is red algae growth. in mostly stagnant lakes, sediments will wash off into the lakes and this will carry minerals such as nitrogen and phosphorus. this will then let the red algae grow, and this species can grow very rapidly and therefore covering the whole lake with red algae.

this will then deplete the oxygen levels in the lake and also cover the sunlight from the top of the lake. this will cause a disruption in photosynthesis in the bottom plants therefore causing them to die. causing lack of food for other organisms since photosynthethic plants are primary producers. the oxygen depletion will kill fishes.

this will affect the food chain, web and the whole habitat and might even affect the whole ecosystem.

Algae bloom. The bloom causes the water to be come colored. The water can be red, green, blue. The affect to food supply: you are not supposed to eat fish caught during an algae bloom, the bloom can cause anaerobic conditions in the water, so the fish cannot "breathe".

Red tide is a swarm of microbe in the water, I can't remember how they do it, but they kill pretty much everything in the water that they come into contact with. I think I was told something about they absorb the oxygen out of the water. But yeah, it can kill you.
