The passenger pigeon (Ectopistes migratorius) or wild pigeon was a species of pigeon that was once the most common bird in North America. It is estimated that there were as many as five billion passenger pigeons in the United States at the time Europeans colonized North America. Some reduction in numbers occurred as a result of loss of habitat, when the Europeans started settling further inland. However, the primary factor emerged when pigeon meat was commercialized as a cheap food for slaves and the poor in the 19th century, resulting in hunting on a massive scale. There was a slow decline in their numbers between about 1800 and 1870, followed by a catastrophic decline between 1870 and 1890. In 1896, the final flock of 250,000 were killed by American sportsmen knowing that it was the last flock of that size. At the end of which they were rare and beyond the point of recovery. 'Martha', thought to be the world's last passenger pigeon, died on September 1, 1914 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

I think the homeless people figured that eating the pigeons, at least the people wouldn't starve to death. I think it is a good idea. And they could use the feathers to make pillows and mattresses.
The ones that weren't caught are living in all the major and minor places now, cause they get all kinds of free handouts.

well, ever since the mailmen and mailboxes and emails came into play, the pigeons were laid off. now they sit in the underground somewhere planning an uprise against the humans. they are mad, filled with poop, and want revenge.

They were put out of work by the telephone. There still are millions of pet homing pidgeons who could carry messages. They can't carry enough drugs make it worthwhile though.
