Type and location of the dent will determine how it's repaired.
The bad seed is right about air pressure. It will take out many smaller dents if they don't have creases. Sometimes they can be reached from the inside through the filler hole. Other times, a dent puller is used.
I haven't had to fix a tank in years, now. I've used compressed air, I've welded studs and pulled on them, I've hammered from inside and out, and I've smoothed the results with bondo where needed.

Sometimes they can be popped out with pressure. That depends on the dent. If it has a crease, it won't pop. They can be filled, but you lose some of your capacity when you do that. It sounds like you're going to paint it, so try a body shop. There are ways to weld and pull them, I have done it a number of times. I don't give instructions because I don't want the liability. It is NOT dangerous if done CORRECTLY. I have had to fix tanks on my Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha.

Try a glue dent puller you can purchase at harbor freight, the only other way to repair without harming paint is your paintless dent remover guy from you local dealership...
These kits are also called ding king by local tv ads...
You might try a web search for ding king...
Good Luck,

wrap a strap around the tank .
and cover a air hose with your hand , inflating the tank through the filler opening..
this works really well
a little air pressure will go along way...more than a few psi. can rupture the tank so be careful
could wind up hurting you and destroying the tank

Because motorcycle fuel tanks are double walled, this will be very hard. Only a professional will be able to manage this. If they cannot pop it out with a glue stick or suction, they will have to spot weld and pull it out, then repair, sand, repaint.

you cant. the only way to (sorta) fix it is to add bondo. even if you pull it the crease will still be obvious.
The best method is to buy one from ebay or new from cycle mart usa (email them for prices)
