i have a 1997 peugeot 306, and recently (gradually) the handbrake light started staying on when i turned the steering wheel in one direction, and now stays on permanently when i drive (and the handbrake is definitely not on, so no obvious reason for the light to be) anyone got any ideas?

First thing you want to do is check the master cylinder brake fluid level. If it is low, this could set off the brake light. If it is full, then you need to have the handbrake switch adjusted or replaced.

You either have a bad ground causing it to stay on or your handbrake needs adjustment.

There is a switch for that light by the E-brake handle or lever and it's ether loose or broken and needs to be replaced.

Sounds like a loose connection or the switch is going bad. Check to see if the fuses are good and tight.

simple wiring connection is slightly off....

All that needs doing is the wiring recconnected properly

your local garage should be able to do this for you, as your car will fail its mot if that happens.
