dviking: everything is not given to them, the poor have to work very hard for what they want. The one parent issue is nothing that anyone can change, as far as education, we all know that needs an overhaul, and the lack of drive is not created because of being handed everything, but because of being told you can't have anything. I know that this isn't true for all, but it is true for some. Also, there is importance being placed on the wrong items..jewelry, cars, and clothing instead of values.

No we should NOT erase welfare for children and those who truly need it. We should continue to monitor and crack down on welfare fraud, though, and punish those who abuse the system.

We should not abandon the children of the united states, But if there is a parent who is healthy and able to work then they should be made to work for the well being of their children and at the same time given the help they need such as day care and transportation. If we continue to hand them assistance on a silver platter and not require them to step up to the plate and take care of their own then the cycle of welfare dependency will never be broken.

We could deconstruct a lot of the welfare program that adults take advantage of while keeping good programs that help children like WIC (Women Infants and Children).
The WIC program gives vouchers that can only be used for certain items like milk, cheese and cereal. The WIC program is also part educational - informing parents about healthy diets for children.
There is no room to abuse this system, but I think welfare has holes in it that adults take advantage of.

Get a economic policy that provides work for everyone first, and doesn't leave up too sixty million americans in destitution. Until america gets one that does this - all middle class morality tales about "hard work" or "laziness" are frankly garbage, and actually only act to perpetuate poverty..
Maybe thats the point of them?

children will always be helped -- always have been and always will be -- but lets get into a discussion on why they need the hellp -- how about (1) one parent familes, (2) education system that has failed, (3) lack of drive since everything will be "given" to them --- ur turn.

Welfare is here to stay and there will always be people that are down and out, need help and also those who are mentally incompetent and physically incapable of helping themselves.
What most people complain about are those who use and abuse the system, not those who truly need the help.

Well their parents could go out and get a job, that would be a good start. There are also at any given time thousands of people looking to adopt a child,so instead of leaving children with drug addicted, alcoholic leeches perhaps we could find them good homes that would be a decent place to grow up,rather than being raised by parents who will assure that they become the next generation of leeches.

Use the Republicans' idea, send them to war.
Think about it, you make billions dollars of profit and you reduce un-employment in the country?
Its brilliant
On a serious note,
One way to help them is to reduce the Income taxes for lower bracket income parents to relieve the burdens on the family and so they can use the extra money to send their kids to school.
