Hi,
I live in Queensland Australia and the Social Security System here allows a heavily discounted price for all public transport. In the Brisbane CBD the rail and bus system only costs one dollar in one direction. Another dollar for the return journey.
If you travel Interstate by rail, the first trip is free but any subsequent tickets are discounted at 50%. You are allowed one trip per year.
It looks like we are dragging the chain here for transport in Australia compared to the USA. However I do believe we have a great medical system. If you are a pensioner, hospital cover costs you nothing and prescription drugs only cost $4.70.
With these benefits, I think we can afford to pay the bus or rail fare now and again.

Yes, we do. We have lots of seniors in my area and some
senior apartments and centers. Bus service is free and
runs all the time. It's very good and runs frequently and on time. There's also a service where private citizens can sign up to take seniors to doctors appointments, hospital, senior centers and other activities.

Yes, they do; I live in King County, Washington (where Seattle is located). As with you, however, I don't yet qualify; I believe the age here is 60.

Why should others be burdened with my desire to travel? If something is of value to me, I should pay for what the service is worth.
Others should not have to work hard so their wages can pay for stuff I want. Others are not my slaves, and I deserve nothing unless I pay.
