Having seen alot of bands live, I'd have to say it's a tie between John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin and Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. Jones can do things with an instrument that other bassists can only dream of and Harris has the fastest fingers I've ever seen.

I have to agree with those that have said Les Claypool, he is exceptional, however Jack Bruce from Cream and Noel Redding from Jimi Hendrix Experience, playing **** hot 8 string get my vote as well.
