My comp has an 80 GB hard drive. It's almost all used up. It was suggested that I get and external hard drive.

How do they work?
Do I just plug it in through a USB?
Can I store pictures and music on it?

~thank you~

They are super simple. Plug in through USB, and it will show up as another drive on your machine. You can store anything you can store on a regular hard drive.

An external Hdd is like an hdd which is not inside your computer but kept outside your cpu and connected with a usb cable.
It works similar to a hard drive.
A very good high quality massive space cheap External hdd creator is Lacie (hongkong).

yes you get a power transformer so you need plug into mains & a cable to usb port then you can store pictures music & any other data you wish buy the biggest disk the funds will allow because we all tend to store.
picture files tend to be bigger now because the modern cameras use more pixels hope this helps

External hard drive is also a hard drive (where you can save files such as music and pictures).

It does connect to the USB drive and you can access it through your My Computer wherein you can see another drive.

Yes you can plug them right into a USB port and you can use it just like the harddrive currently in your computer. Pictures, music, video, programs, whatever.
