I don't think it was the most entertaining ever, but certainly not the worse. Ryan did a pretty good job, but nothing that will draw a lot of raves. I think too many were waiting/hoping for him to fail - because he's on that "reality show" and not an actor.
The audience itself seemed a bit flat so that could be why most of the night lacked spark. This is usually a fun, upbeat night compared to the more uptight Oscars. There was a lot of talk and thank yous to writers so possibly the impending writers strike put a damper on everything as well.
I was surprised by Katherine Heigl too, but happily so. I was also very happy to see America Ferrera and Sally Field win.
The funniest part was when Jon Stewart and Ricky Gervais gave Ricky Gervais's award to Steve Carell because Ricky wasn't there. The 3 hugging and celebrating was LOL.
I liked the Kanye West segment and he actually acted a bit humble (shocker), but I think it could have been better executed.
My only question now is what was Sally Field saying at the end that Fox censored? I know it was some war protest but that was a long mute.
ETA: I searched and found out they cut off the last 6 words of: “If mothers ruled the world, there would be no – Gd wars in the first place."

I thought is was very entertaining. I'm glad The Sopranos has expired so they don't get all the nominations anymore. I hate that show. I was suprised that Katherine Heigl won, too but glad. She was cool. Sally Field-I wanted her to win but JEEZ can't the woman keep her mouth shut!? The Kanye West part was a riot. He was actually take digs at himself and it made him seem more human. His "performance" was simply awful, though. I thought Ryan Seacrest did and excellent job.

Even though I don't watch ANY of the nomiated shows, I still enjoyed it. Pretty good as awards shows go. The "in the round" style was a cool choice. One thing that did bother me was the blatant censorship. I understand it's a live broadcast, and we must protect our precious children from the threat of errant nipple exposure, but I think FOX was a little itchy on the trigger finger with the dump button. For instance, Sally Field had a fantastic acceptance speech (as usual) but once she started moving into political commentary, they must have gotten nervous, because they dumped the climax of her speech. Next thing I know, the audience is going wild, and I don't know why!
But overall it was a very well produced show. A celebration of Television, indeed.

THe whole show was a big disapointment. Ryan Secrest sucked, he hardley did anything other than shamlessly plug American Idol. The round stage was weird. I can't believe that Katherine Heigel won and that of all the nominations Sopranons only got one award!
Overall, rather dissapointed....
