1. Roman Territories included all of the Italian peninsula, part of Sicily, and territories that it held in Spain. Carthage included North Africa, Corsica, Sardinia, part of Sicily, and territories in Spain.

2. 1st Punic war - It started as a dispute between Rome and Carthage over the city-state of Messana. It spiraled into an all out war for territorial ownership of Sicily. It was primarily a naval war, and the effect of the first war was Rome's seizing of Sicily, Rome's construction of an impressive navy, and heavy financial penalties levied against Carthage.

2nd Punic war - Started as a dispute between minor Spanish protectorates of Rome and Carthage that spiraled out into another war between Carthage and Rome themselves (similar to how WWI started.) Its effect was Rome seizing all territories in Spain, the rendering of Carthage to impotence, and the start of Rome's conquest of Greece, in response to Phillip V's support of Carthage during the war.

3. Punic comes from the Latin term for the word "Phoenician": "Punici", due to Carthage's descent from the Phoenician culture.
