I had cobra drag pipes(cobra pipes suck) which popped at any speed reduction, so I put Vance & Hines pipes on, which seemed to help alittle, but the bike still pops whenever I let off. Thus, what is the cure?

The air cut valves may be stuck, torn or not sealing.
That's why Honda put them on most of their bikes.
To reduce the air supply on deceleration, to prevent back firing on deceleration.

It sounds as though your bike is running very lean, your carb jets are too small. You need to remove the 4 screws from the bowl (on one of the carbs), the with a flat tip screwdriver remove the main jet. On the head of the jet should be a number stamped on it, for an example...107, replace them with 110s. About a 2 size up is a good place to start.

If you cant find what you need feel free to sent me an email, I have film containers full of Mukuni jets. I used them back when I ran a Pro Stock Drag bike.

One other thing I'd like to add. Remove a spark plug and if it is a gray/white in color, that is another sign of being to lean.

POPPING in the exhaust = lean condition. You'll need to rejet, preferably with the aid of a dyno for best all around power.

BACKFIRE in the exhaust = too much fuel in the exhaust igniting before it exits the pipe. Here too is usually a jetting issue, but can also be ignition timing OR even valve timing if they've been messed with.

If you blew the seals enough to allow fluid to leak out of them, you need to replace the seals. However, I suspect you won't listen to good advice, so yes, you can add fluid to the top of the fork. Remove one top cap - carefully, there is a spring under there and the last MM of turn will pop the whole thing upwards! It is helpful to know the fluid level. Unfortunately, most forks are filled off the bike with the fork fully compressed, measured down from the top a certain distance to the top of the fluid. You are going to have to guess. Leave around 150 - 180mm of air space at the top of the fork. It will likely be close. Second warning!!!! Remove only ONE fork cap at a time!!!!! Do NOT remove both caps at the same time!!!!. You will injure yourself and the front end will collapse if you take both front fork caps off at the same time while the weight of the bike is on the front wheel!!!!. Put the first cap fully on - dont' cross thread the cap! Then take the second cap off and repeat. Fill the fluid to the same level you set on the other fork. I really recommend that you have the fork seals, dust seals and other wear parts replaced and the forks serviced properly. Your front end is all that is keeping you safely on the road.

By putting after market pipes on it you effectively made the bike run lean. Check with a mechanic with a dyno and ask about remapping the fuel injection or changing jets in the carb. You may need a Power Commander or similar aftermarket device to do this on your fuel injection.

Dyno tuning is key to get the most out of any engine mods you make.

The popping is caused by un-burned fuel in your exhaust.....you need to have it tuned and the fuel intake weather it's a carburator or Electronic fuel injection. If it's a carb, it'll need to jetted, if it's EFI it'll need a computer chip.....that will cure it, and feed you more HP, AND TORQUE.

whenever you replace a full exhaust system you should remap the bike of you actually lose power. You need to adjust the fuel map to get the power back.

To adjust the fuel, you will need a fuel control computer. the best and most popular are the power commanders by Dynojet.
