HP DVD Writer 840b?

it will read cds but it won't read dvds ive tryed dvd-rs and dvd+rs can anyone help

You may have a defective product. I added a HP DVD writer and have excellent service. Go to www.support@hp.com. They have excellent support. If you don't get your answer on line, look for their phone number. I think you will get the help there. Good luck.
