I've seen specs that say 6,200 lbs, but is that the 6 cyl or the 8 cyl?

I own a shop, and that is with either engine. They are geared differently, and will tow about the same. The six cylinder has a lower ratio rear-end than the 8 cylinder does, so therefore the towing capacity is the same on both. Two things to pay attention to is; If its an automatic transmission, then at capacity it will over heat it when traveling up hills, so a cooler would be needed to assist in keeping it cool. You can get one from a parts store for about $40-$75 depending on which one you get. Second is the tow hitch. If it is attached to the bumper, then you may want to consider adding a tow bar that attaches to the frame, and is secured by heavy bolts, and/or welded in place. A good place for more info is; try the library, and look in a Chilton's Repair Manual under capacities.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Friend of mine took a V-6 powered 2 door Chevy S-10 Blazer to California and towed a trailer loaded with a '68 Chevelle back home here to Ohio. That's OVER the Rocky Mountains. Any vehicle can tow more than it's rated capacity if you really want to do it...up to a point.

AS always what year? and that paperback book that came with the car still zipped up in its folder inside the glove box. Inside that book are things you did not know about your truck. A easy read under " Towing " Take 30 minutes to review the whole book. I think the 6,200lb total weight is correct but I would have a bigger transmission oil cooler installed. Expect horrable gas milage.
