I once asked a midwife about this. Apparently it doesn't work on its own.
You need to do the 'three hots' hot bath, hot curry and hot sex, not necessarily in that order. One or another may set you off but the combination of the three is meant to really get things going!
Incidentally the hot curry doesn't have to be really hot, just hot to you personally.
Good luck tho!

Sometimes it works other times it doesn't, it all depends if ur body's ready for labour. With my first we had sex in the morning and I went into labour that night. I have a bit of a problem at the mo coz I'm only 34 weeks and we had sex friday and its sent me into early labour. Good luck

It depends on whether the womens body is ready to go into labour. It helps if you have lost your mucus plug already or it gets lost after the sex. It can take only a few hours or a day if it is going to work.
My hubby and I did this with our second when I was 2 days overdue. Had sex about 7am (I laid on the bed afterward with a big pillow under my butt for about 1/2 an hour to let the semen sit on the cervix and soften it). When I got up and hopped in the shower, I lost my mucus plug. About lunch time I started with very mild irregular contractions but still managed to go grocery shopping! Only lasted a couple of hours and that was it. but about 10pm they started all of a sudden to go 6mins apart and painful and 7am I had my son. All in all 24hrs after sex he was born with a 9hr labour.
I doesn't always work though, and your body has to be ready for it. When it works, it works really well.
Best of luck

It is supposed to work because something in the males sperm (enzymes?) may help to soften the cervix and the contractions you experience during orgasm can help to start contractions for labour. It isn't guaranteed to work, neither is hot curry or a hot bath. You can try them all and they may work but hopefully that baby will come when it's ready, enjoy any last peace and quiet and relax and put your feet up. Store your energy for the amazing experience to come.

It all depends on the woman and the method used to induce.
here are some of the techniques used to induce labor and some info:

When i was overdue with my first, my midwife said to have hot baths, hot curry and hot sex!!! I did all three all weekend and nothing happened so i had to be induced on the Monday. Unfortunately it is true that baby will come when they want to and not when you want them to. It is all worth the wait though but unless you are enjoying the sex, don't bother.

It depends on the women and the body. Having sex did nothing to me to help induce. So dont always bank on it, Sorry.

There's no real answer to this that I know of- it could be a few hours, or not at all. I think walking is a better way to try to get it rolling.

You assume it works all the time, and it doesn't.
