Do not do this. You can contaminate your whole yard, and wind up with a very expensive environmental clean up. Lead is a poison. In the elemental form, (shavings) it is not excessively hazardous, but once on the ground, acid or alkali from fertilizer, rain water, salt from irrigation, bug spray, etc. can transform it into many, many nasty compounds. It could leach into groundwater, get into storm sewers wind up who knows where! This is a really, really bad idea!

That reminds me of a story in which a neighbor of mine, who was pregnant at the time, told me that she couldn't go swimming because sitting under the sun would cause her baby to boil. My response was. WWWWHAT????
It is a really, really, really good thing to did check because
like the others have mentioned, lead is a poison. You might have your husband inform his coworkers of that.

It may be good for the plants, but it's BAD for you. Lead is a heavy metal, chemically speaking, and it's VERY toxic. Keep it away from any and all edible plants.

anytime near a fruit tree is beyond me,I would not even put it in my yard. This could be toxic to your fruits ,pets and you not to mention your health. Please don't for your health if nothing else.
