Yes formatting will do it but how about this:
Normally your malware programs will delete these beasts. However, a lot of viruses, spyware & adware are designed to sit in RAM, the registry and System Restore and because of this will return even after deleting or re-booting. Removing can be a little time consuming but thankfully not impossible.
First of all you must turn off System Restore. This can be achieved by going to ‘Start’ > ‘My Computer’ > ‘Properties’ > Open the ‘System Restore’ tab then enable “Turn off system restore on all drives” > click apply > click ok.
It is now best to re-boot your computer in Safe Mode – (achieved by pressing F8 continually during boot up) this should clear out the malware in RAM and the registry.
You must now run your anti virus and anti spyware and anti adware software and delete or quarantine any viruses or spies found.
Re-boot your computer in normal mode and complete another virus check. If all comes back clean don’t forget to turn on System Restore.

Spyware is a program with the main objective of monitoring users activities. But it can also steal private information, install unwanted software, redirect browsers to other websites than the ones the user wants to visit or even displays advertisements.
You are infected with spyware if:
* You see too much pop-up advertisements.
* Your browser has toolbars that you haven't installed.
* Your homepage has changed (and you can't change it back).
* Other settings have changed without your permission.
* Your computer is slow.
To get rid of spyware and keep your computer clean you have to use an antispyware or even more.
To remove spyware,I recommend XoftSpy Se.
XoftSpy Se Features:
*Remove Spyware, Adware
*Stop Pop-ups
*Kill Trojans, Worms, Viruses
*Clean Registry & Program Errors
*Remove harmful registry keys and files
*Speed-Up your computer
*Destroy harmful hijackers
*Helps prevent identity theft
*Clean & Optimize your PC
It can be found on this page:

Finally,Make sure you have 1 or 2 antispyware on your computer and 1 antivirus and also 1 firewall.
GOOD LUCK!

Well you could have an anti-spyware or you could change your firewall settings. You could also set the pop up blocker of your internet browser. But if I were you I would download AVG or Norton anti-spyware scan the computer and I will set the firewalls properly and I would download a better internet browser maybe you would like to change your browser to Avant its a very safe browser.

Why not try a spyware removal tool first? Adaware is free anti-spyware software. Download it free (see the green button) here:
