Well maths is not scary. It is just that there are many problems in maths. If we are not able to solve these problems then it becomes difficult. But when we start solving the questions easily then maths looks easy to us. As long as the questions are solved one never says that Maths is scary.

No - I was never told it was difficult.
I thought everyone could read a math book like a novel.
When I came to this country I missed the first semester of calculus since I arrived in Nov. I read the book over the holidays and took the final with the rest of the class. I got 195 of 200. I got dinged 5 points for having 7x8 = something that was not right - I still don't know what it is. Math is not arithmetic. That's what we have calculators for.

I got an MS in math and loved it.. I got somehow plugged into that math channel that's on 24/7 for everyone to tap into. Keep fine tuned and you get there too.

I could never teach math to anyone since I don't have a clue how I figure things out. The beauty with doing math and writing software is that you know you are right or wrong without anyone else checking it out. And it all comes out of nowhere and becomes something useful. It's a real high - when you really get into it you are in this FLOW where time, matter, and space go away. Literally blows you away. You are just math,or just sw.

n. I actually enjoy being able to solve real problems. Math is a tool the way I see it. I guess that means that being afraid of math would be like being afraid of a screwdriver or something, except that a screwdriver could actually be used to hurt someone. I don't know about math in that respect, which further solidifies the weirdness of being afraid of it once you think about it.

The thing that bugs me about math is that it kind of gets crammed down people's throats in school, most people don't like math I think because of how it's taught. Yes everybody should know it, but why should anybody be afraid of something so useful and potentially enjoyable? You don't even have to be good at it and I certainly don't think people aiming for non-math careers should be timed in doing it either. Math can be done so many ways with a beneficial result it should be more like a language you learn to speak naturally or a hobby you take up and pursue than a chore you're forced to do from little on. Things like math that are so wonderful shouldn't have to be forced.

I am scare of teachers that are scare of math. Unfortunately there are some teachers that do not like math and they do not want to teach it but have to teach it.

Unfortunately, there are no programs to reward teachers to teach math. I am a teacher that loves math and I wanted to get a math endorsement for elementary school. Because this is the foundation of math. If you have a teacher on 1st grade and second grade that loves math you will learn to love it too. But guess what. My district does not support math in the lower grades. If you get an endorsement you will be move to 8th grade. And I am not to teach that grades. I just do not like it.

So, I did not get the endorsement. But that will be my dream job.

On the other hand I hate writing. I hate teaching writing. But Guess what? I have to teach it and I hate it. So, my students might hate it too. I try to hide it but students are smart and they catch everything.

I am NOT scared of math. In fact, I majored in math at Rutgers University (I have always considered myself to be a very logical person). However, math majors at Rutgers were required to take Physics in addition to Math coursed.

It was then that I learned that my mantra became, "Math works. Physics doesn't". I thought to myself, "If you can show me a massless rope or a frictionless pulley, I'll believe in Physics.

No.

But people like you are downright SCARY!!!!!

It's not your fault, however.
I am convinced that, in order to get a teaching degree,
one must have a visceral hatred of mathematics,
and to qualify for employment in the government-run
"pubic" school system, that fear and hatred must be
sufficiently strong that it is contagious to the students.

[I sometimes teach "remedial math" at the local community college.
It is appalling how many students come in hating math,
It is also gratifying that many leave my classes with an enjoyment of mathematics, and often a passion to obtain pleasure from doing mathematical puzzles (such as cryptarithms, suduko, etc.) now and then.

Try doing some math puzzles that are NOT assigned by a so-called "teacher". (And get revenge on your public school teachers by learning to enjoy doing them! :^>
