Actually, it's a combination of many things, and society is actually a large part of it; but also how a person is raised, his / her religious beliefs and other things play a part in the make up of the morals of society.

People's moral's mainly depend upon what kind of environment they were raised in.
Society only plays a small part of it.

What they thought is was good or bad for that age, the problem comes when they preach one thing and do other really different.
