so what is the question? if you want to look for the length of each side of the triangle then with the given length of x inches, x + 1 inches and x + 2 inches and a perimeter of 42 inches,

The length of side x is :

Perimeter = x + (x + 1)inches + ( x +2) inches = 42 inches
x + x + 1 + x +2 = 42 inches
3x + 3 inches = 42 inches
3x = 42 - 3 inches
3x = 39 inches
x = 13 inches; which length of one sideTo solve for the other two sides:

x + 1 = 13 + 1 = 14 inches
x + 2 = 13 + 2 = 15 inches
Now, we have the length of the three sides of the triangle which are 13, 14, and 15 inches.

if you have to find x then the solution would be:
x + (x + 1) + (x + 2) = 42
=> 3x + 3 = 42
=> 3x = 42 - 3
=> 3x = 39
=> x = 13
so the sides are:
x = 13
x + 1 =14
x + 2 = 15

x + x + 1 + x +2 = 42
combined similar terms.:
3x + 3 = 42
move 3 to the other side:
3x = 42 - 3
3x = 39 divide both sides by 3
x = 13
x+1 = 14
x+2 = 15
